Aikidoka Enrichment Experiences

In the past six months, Fox Valley Aikikai has had the opportunity to present or attend seven major aikido events. These seminars provide repeated exposure to many variations in teaching styles. Those variations provide a rich, full description of aikido in all of its subtle yet powerful movements. Those events have included:

May: Murashige Sensei, 6th dan, assistant instructor, San Diego Aikikai, at Great Lakes Aikikai

June: USAF Western Region Summer Camp in San Diego

July: Shindo Sensei, 6th dan, and Lisa Tomoleoni, 3rd dan, from Aikido Shindo Dojo in Tokyo, Japan, taught classes in our dojo to both children and adults.

August: Great Lakes Aikikai's regional seminar. Instructors included T.S. Okuyama Sensei, 5th dan, shidoin, and Maureen Browne Sensei, 3rd dan, fukishidoin. Two of our members tested for and achieved shodan rank.

September: Glen Ellyn Aikido Club's 25th anniversary seminar. Instructors included Judith Leppert Sensei, 3rd dan, from Glen Ellyn and Norio Mamura Sensei, 6th dan, shidoin, from Milwaukee Aikido Club.

September: Lizzy A. Lynn Sensei, 5th dan, shidoin, from Eastshore Aikikai in California. This was our dojo's first major seminar.

October: Y. Kurita Shihan, 6th dan from Mexico, at Great Lakes Aikikai.
